description

In the 1920s the Checker Taxi was the biggest operator in Chicago. By 1922 it started manufacturing its own cabs after struggling through the 1930s, and diversified into military trucks during the war.

After a few false starts the A8 was introduced in 1956 and, except for a few minor changes, remained in production until 1982. The All/A12 series was introduced in 1963 and by 1967 the small block Chevy 327 was installed. Federal legislation of the 1970s forced fuel and safety changes making the company struggle.

The last body styling change was made in 1973 putting on huge, ungainly front bumpers. This is a compilation of road tests, technical features, performance and specification data, introductory articles.

Models covered are: A8 Standard, A8 Driv-er-Matic, Superba, Marathon, Superba Estate, Marathon Estate, Aerocar, Aerobus, A12E, A11E.
