BMW 3 Series E30 1983-1991 repair manuals

Chilton's (USA) publish two manuals for the E30. One covers models up to 1988 (also includes many other BMW models from 1970) but covers only 318i with M10 engine and the 325e and 325i with M20 engine.

The second manual covers models from 1989 (also includes later E36 series and Z3 models) including the 318is with M42 engine, and 325i with M20 engine.

Haynes UK and Haynes USA both produced manuals for the E30 3-Series (both also covered 5-Series models too).

The Haynes UK manual covered most of the models sold in Australia except for the 318is and 323i. There was a manual that did cover the early E30 320i and 323i but it is now out of print (it also covered the E21 3-Series).

The Haynes USA manual covered only the early 318i with M10 engine, 325e and 325i models.

The Bentley Publications manual covers US models and is the most comprehensive manual for the E30 3-Series. However, it does not cover all engines available in the Australian market. Specifically, it does not cover the 1.8-litre M40 engine fitted to series 2 318i, or the twincam M42 engine from the local 318is. It also does not cover the 320i with 2.0-litre 6-cylinder engine (M20B20) or 323i with 2.3-litre 6-cylinder engine (M20B23).
